GEEK or CREATIVE?

Hackspace

THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE HEARD OF HACKSPACES will have an idea of what I’m talking about here. Others of you may be wondering what on earth I’m on about!

Those of you who know me well will know that I’m not really technologically minded and not in the slightest bit interested in computer gaming or coding as long as my PC works, is all that bothers me!

However if you start showing me pieces of craft work, sewing projects, baking and handmade projects I will start to get excited!

Hack Oldham

It was the imagination of Andy Powell from Caffeinated Projects who really helped to inspire me and enabled me to foresee the concept of the HackSpace working, and how the collaboration of different geeky and creative projects in one space, would work.

I could visualise Andy’s dream and it was his infectious spirit that made me feel that this project was worthwhile and how I wanted to be a part of it.

Hardcastle Street, Oldham

Visiting the former bike repair shed at its first viewing, I must admit I did struggle with the concept, but seeing it develop and being there on the open day certainly pushed back my horizons!

Even the leader of the council who had assisted in the property search was amazed at what he saw that day! Not an IT geek community completely, but one of creativity and technology, handmade and computer equipment in the same space.

Some activities ‘got’ me and others didn’t!

Independent Quarter

Perfectly situated in the Independent Quarter of Oldham Town Centre its location couldn’t be more ideal.

Now the HackSpace has been open a couple of weeks the activity calendar is building and new tenants Caffeinated Projects have moved in.

Sitting right in the hub of the independent quarter with potentially lots of independent business neighbours goodness knows what will immerge!

It just got me thinking …. Which type are you? Creative or Geek?

What moves you inside? Handmade or futuristic technology?
